Sister Angelica

Quite a while ago, I was driving home and heard a breathtaking aria on the radio. The singer was amazing and the whole aria was simply divine. When I came home, I checked out the website of the radio station and found out that it was “Senza mama”, an aria from Puccini’s Suor Angelica. With the details on the singer, I found details on the record.

I called my mother-in-law who is a almost an authority on classical music and she promised to visit her favourite store and ask around for the record. But the record was unavailable. Instead, they had a different version of Il Trittico, which I ordered after much debate. My mother-in-law also found a second-hand shop in Amsterdam which had the aria itself on a compilation disc. So I ordered that too.

Today, I decided to check one last time and I found the recording. It’s the same recording as I heard on the radio, but it was a re-issue. I’ve ordered that one too. I can’t possibly tell my mother-in-law since she spent hours looking for the record. So, very soon, I will be the owner of two versions of Il Trittico. Enough to brighten almost a whole week of commuting, I suspect.

Haha, you’ve found it as well? That’s funny. :) And no, you’d better not tell her, she’s put too much time and effort in finding it. Soon we’ll have a lot of different versions to listen to, I am curious for them as well.
