Holland’s Next Role Model

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

Apparently, Kim Feenstra, the winner of the last “Holland’s Next Top Model”, a clone of “America’s Next Top Model” is nothing more but a common thief.

While I rarely watched the show, on the few occasions that I did, the winner struck me as completely mediocre and absolutely dumb with just enough braincells to keep her from drooling. Now it also seems she’s a common thief as she was convicted earlier this week for stealing a purse and withdrawing money with the bank card obtained from that purse. Not being her biggest fan and me being simple enough to draw quick conclusions on someone’s character, this amused me and sort of made my headache more bearable.

Edit: A reader brought it to my attention that she’s apparently also stolen a scooter before.

*ouch*

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

I woke up this morning feeling just dandy. A few minutes later, in the car, I get a headache. I took painkillers but I think they’ve worn off by now and I’ve still got the headache. Whenever I get a decent night’s rest after a long while, I get headaches. My whole body tenses and it hurts all day, especially in the neck area. We definitely need a better mattress and I think we’re going to invest some this weekend …

Drowning by numbers

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

In Belgium and the Netherlands and probably other countries as well, we have certain shops and places that need you to draw a number in order to get served.

I don’t know why, but some people choose to ignore drawing a number and just go ahead and stand in line. This morning, I had some business to attend to at my bank. I walk in and draw a number. There’s one person in front of me. When my number comes up, I resolutely walk to the counter indicated on the big led board and I notice the other person walking next to me. When I show my number to the clerk, I hear this humongous sigh come up and then it hits me: the guy didn’t take a number.

Serves him right ;)

Eight random facts about intGod

Sunday, July 15th, 2007

This post is in response to my being tagged for the “8 random facts about me” meme by Lori Linstruth at Play like a Girl. It’s a meme. There’s a whole scientific approach to it, but nowadays, it’s just a fun question or topic being passed along blogs.

The point of this particular meme is to divulge eight random facts about yourself, then “tag” eight other bloggers to do the same. You tag them by linking to them, which sends an automatic notification link that they can see in their blog’s admin panel (if they’re using Wordpress).

  1. After a period of relative calm, my hairline is now receding faster than ever before. At this rate, I’ll have to shave my head before long;
  2. The synopsis of point 1 will not be something my wife likes;
  3. I once acquired a whole box of cookies without paying for it – it still haunts me sometimes;
  4. I have slight neurotic tendencies;
  5. I have asthma although not as bad as when I was a child. Also, there has been a time during which I was asthma-free;
  6. I hate open-source although I’m using WordPress right now and I also have some open-source server applications running. It’s the fact that installing is always a hassle and configuring is even more of a hassle. I also hate Microsoft Sharepoint because I want an application that works “out-of-the-box” and that doesn’t require me to tweak the whole thing before it even remotely starts to make sense;
  7. I hate a lot less people than I did twenty years ago;
  8. I like taking pictures of myself from weird angles or when making weird faces. I have a very expressive face.

People I’m tagging (of which not everyone uses Wordpress and not anyone will fill out the meme):

Annemal
Peter Elst
Helder Licht
Oscar Alexander
Shotie
Fenko
Lunameth
Joop B

Awaiting …

I’m going to be a father!

Yes, dear subscribers, you got that right. I’ve been wanting to have children for a while now. Last December, my wife decided to stop contraception (it wasn’t abstenance, you hecklers!) and we decided to go for it.

In May, a few days after my wife’s birthday, she got a pregnancy test and it turned out to be positive! After all this time, I think it’s safe to tell you people. Some of you may already know and I would like to thank you for keeping it quiet. The kid is well into its 13th week and everything is looking great. My wife’s doing considerably well – none of the morning sickess (thank [insert favourite deity here]) or the weird munching. She’s of course more tired and she’s skipping my performances as a result of the pregnancy.

We’ve already chosen names, but I won’t tell you which until the child is born. In the meantime, we’re calling it “Mini”.
